Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a detailed Rental Agreement, which you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities for that rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements to Rent a Vehicle
- To hire a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old; note that age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. You need a valid driving licence suited for the vehicle category, held for the duration stated in the Rental Agreement. Identification and proof of your current address are required, along with valid payment information and a security deposit. Additional conditions may apply as outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, by phone, or directly at our Atherton location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and any required security deposit are usually collected at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept major credit and debit cards, with transactions securely processed through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. The vehicle must be returned in the same state as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage incurred will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if the level is lower. Late returns can lead to extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if a delay is anticipated. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance as standard. You will find full coverage information and excess amounts outlined in your Rental Agreement. To lower your financial liability, additional insurance options may be offered. It is beneficial to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless covered by supplementary insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, regardless of existing insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle may not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, and passengers cannot exceed the specified limits. Driving outside the agreed geographical area requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Atherton will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury arising from negligence, or for fraudulent activities.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon publication on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
